What are the best teas for colds (and other illnesses)?

With the Autumn and Winter comes the sniffs and the sneezes; the coughs and the colds. As well as every other illness and ailment that might be doing the rounds.

If you’re struck down by the season’s diseases, the best thing you can do is pop the kettle on and rest.

But, what is the best herbal tea for colds? What’s the best tea for sore throats? Or headaches? And, what about the mental health benefits tea can bring?

If you’re not sure how to tackle the sickness that’s seized you, here’s a handy guide on how different teas can help with your particular malady…

Feeling bloated or have allergies?

Then, green tea is the answer to your problems. The benefits of green tea, ideally boiled at 80°C, are that it can relieve any bloated discomfort you may be experiencing. Not only that, it’s great for relieving any allergies you may have, calming down your sinuses.

Want to enhance your metabolism?

Try a cup or two of Oolong tea. One of its key ingredients is known for preventing the build-up of fat in your system.

With our smart kettle, you can preset your Appkettle app, so that it can boil the water inside to the perfect 85°C for this particular brew.

Suffering from a cold and/or a sore throat?

Ginger is a great medicinal tea, defeating the viruses that cause common colds in the first place. With the water boiled to a perfect 93°C, it’s also a fantastic throat soothing tea, with the toxins being flushed out of you with every cup.

Splitting headaches or slight anxiety?

Throbbing headaches or flat-out migraines can be soothed with a lovely cup of Chamomile tea, as nausea, as well as light and sound sensitivity can be eased by a cup or two of this effective brew.

If you are prone to bouts of prolonged mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, chamomile tea can reduce symptoms of these conditions. They can be further helped by setting the recommended temperature of 90°C as one of your favourites for the Appkettle, ensuring a de-stressing cup of tea is only the push of a button away.

Having a smart kettle is beneficial for both your physical and mental health, as colds and Winter blues can set in quite easily. To combat both of these, the Appkettle can be scheduled so that whichever ailment you are suffering from can be alleviated in a matter of minutes.
